Disk scan always starts when you turn off your computer in a hurry. It can be a system crash or simply power cut. The scan disk scans your hard disk for bad sector. It is always suggested that you turn off your computer properly by the recommended method.

Always check out battery of ups (uninterrupted power supply). Still, you must scan your hard disk once a week. Open you’re my computer and right click on a drive. Then go to the properties.

There you will find a disk cleanup option. This option is used to cleanup your disk by deleting unwanted files. You can recover some hard disk space by doing this.

After that, click on the top tab that says, tools.

In the tools tab, you can click on the disk scan and the defragment. It is recommended that you first do the disk scan, and then defragment the drives.

Virus and spyware are a major reason why our computers get’s slower. Most of us have anti-virus programs, but the spyware and ad wares don’t get removed by these anti-virus software’s. To remove these spywares stuff you need some other kind of anti-virus software’s. Spybot and adawares se personal are two such software’s. Ad aware se personal is one of the best spyware and adware removing software. Also it is free. You just need to go to it’s website and download it. Once it get’s installed and updated, scan your computer with it. After the scan you will get the options to delete the spy stuff from your computer. After this is done, you will see a good increase in your computers speed.

Spyware is a real threat, do you want a browser cookie to do spying in your computer. This is what spyware dose, it tells the spy servers about your Internet usage and all your private data is made public. But you can remove spywares, there are a lot of methods to remove them. We have already discussed about the deletion of the browser cookies. Also a lot of spywares attacks registry and ad aware se personal is good for this. There are a lot of such things, spyware, adware, keylogers etc. and removing these is very important.

For the virus stuff I recommend the Norton antivirus. At pack.google.com a 6 months free subscription of Norton is available. The version is 2005 and it’s pretty good. Also adaware se personal is also available there, and all this is absolutely free. Also the combination of Norton and ad aware is good, and I strongly recommend it for a safer and faster computer experience.

Want to get some hidden space from your computer. System restore is by default turned on, just turn it off and you will get a lot of space back. So what is system restore, it a feature where your computer simply saved the files you deleted, programs you uninstalled, and things like that. To be very honest, you can get in problems; as if you turn it off them you can do nothing if the system crashes. But then, how many times have you used system restore, almost never. There is absolutely no reason why so much space should be left wasted. Therefore system restore should be turned off.

To do this, you simply need to right click on my computer, and go to properties. On clicking the properties, system property will open. In the system restore tab click on the box that says, turn of system restore on all drives. That’s it, then apply and ok. This will instantly give you a lot of space back. Just backup your data regularly, and you won’t fall in any problems.

Manage your computer better, with disk management. Disk management provides you with the facility of creating and deleting drives on your computer. This one of the greatest features of windows xp that allows you to instantly regain your disk space.

To go to disk management, just right click on your “my computer”. After the right click, click on the manage link that comes in the right click menu. You can see in the figure. After you click on the “manage”, you will get the computer management dialog box. There you click on the disk management.

In disk management you will find a lot of options. Simply right click on the free space there and you will see an option telling you to make a new drive. Right click on a drive and delete it, all data will be instantly deleted with it.

Disk management is the best way to make a drive out of your unpartitioned space. Don’t let free space go wasted, make the most out of your space. In the next post, I will give another method to regain some more space from your hard disk

Clearing browser cache is a great method to speed up your computer. Some websites track you by cookies. These cookies use up a lot of your system’s ram. The best way to clean these is from the Internet options.

To go there, you need to open your control pannel. From there click on the Internet options.

In the internet options at the top tab “general “, you will find “delete cookies”, “delete files” and “clear history” buttons. Just click them and your system and Internet will work smoothly.

But the only problem is, all your browsing history will be deleted. So, this method actually removes traces of any previously visited websites. Anyways this also saves a lot of space.

Some times you see your computer starts freezing. You try to launch a program and it dose not start. Your games don’t run and the system crashes. System hangs and you can’t help it. Programs get’s slower and you thing it’s a virus. But actually there is some other problem. This mainly happens because of the windows run time files get corrupted with time. It happens, it’s the nature of windows operating system and the experts says that system has lost few files and thus system is unstable. Many will suggest that you should have a format. But there is an easy solution.

Yes you can replace your corrupted files. For this there is a simple command “sfc”. If you are using windows 98 then simply go to run. There type in, sfc and you will get the sfc wizard. Start it and give it windows 98 cd and it will replace the corrupted files with the new files from the cd.

For windows xp it is not all that easy. In xp you will have to open the command. Go to start --> run and type their cmd. You will get the command window. There you will have to type in sfc /scannow.

You will get the sfc dialog box. You will have to provide it with the windows xp cd.

After that all the corrupted files will be replaced. And you windows installation will be fresh and perfect again.

Make your computer work faster. Just think, you may have bought a nice computer, a latest one. Yet after some time say a few weeks of use it becomes slow. It may take some time to open and give you the desktop. Do you know why this happens? This is due to the programes that starts automatically at logon. But you can choose the programes, which you want to start when your computer starts. For this, there is a secret command. Msconfig, this command launches a dialog box that helps you to choose which programs you want to remove at the start of your computer.

To do this: simply go to run, the shortcut for run is windows key + r. In the run dialog box, write msconfig.

Then the following msconfig dialog box will appear. After that simply go to the start up tab, and there you can remove the ticked entries. Once you clear the box, the particular software dose not get’s auto launched on startup.

This little thing helps you to start your computer quicker. Also there are a few viruses that starts at computer starts, so I suggest you to tick off those which you don’t want to start automatically. But then don’t remove your antivirus software from start up, or some important things, as this will create further problems.
